Wanting a life free from expectations is the same as saying you don't want anyone to count on you.
The more people expect from you, the more they value you as a coworker, friend, partner etc.
It is a testament to your capability, experience, trust and worth.
Afterthoughts
Freedom from expectations also means you have no right to expect anything from anyone else.
Living up to expectations might be hard and feel demanding - but Living without anyone ever expecting anything from you, is probably way worse.
Saying you don't expect anything from anyone else to justify it is nothing other than cowardly.
It is also almost never the truth.
